Canadian Patent Office (CIPO) increases productivity

CIPO has an increasing role as an international intellectual property (IP) search authority. To support growth, the organization has to provide up-to-the-minute, accurate information for its biotech examiners when searching the most recent patent records using both biological and IP-sensitive search methods.

For a large number of examiners, sequence searching is only an occasional requirement. To meet this need, CIPO needed a system that was both powerful and comprehensive for power user, while remaining easy for occasional examiners to use and remember. In addition, CIPO's processes a large volume of biotechnology sequence patents and their information technology is not specializing in bioinformatics so it was important that the solution be hosted and accessed thru a secure Internet connection.

GenomeQuest proposed a GenomeQuest solution for all IP examiners in CIPO's biotech practice hosted by GenomeQuest. The solution has been extremely productive for CIPO allowing them to increase the productivity of their existing biotech examiners while simultaneously hiring and training new examiners to use the system.
